Raccoons, chinchillas, and feral cats: unusual animals for the home

In today’s world, instead of a dog or cat, you can have a cougar or raccoon. However, keeping exotic animals should be taken very seriously, as they require a special diet and care. We tell you about the most unusual pets.

1. Raccoon-crawler

Raccoons are very agile and inquisitive animals. Be prepared for the fact that the little pet will want to lay out your house brick by brick. That’s why it’s so important to buy a raccoon from a trusted seller, otherwise it may be too wild and unable to live with people.

Cute and naughty raccoons love to eat good food. Their diet should include quality raw meat, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Veterinarians advise giving the animals fish, since in the wild, raccoons catch most of their food from bodies of water.

2. Mini Pig

Don’t be fooled by the name. These pigs can weigh up to 70 kg. Therefore, if you decide to get such a pet, you should allocate him a separate corner in the house, and preferably a room. Mini-pigs are playful and unpretentious in nutrition. They can be given any porridges, fruits and vegetables.

3. Hedgehog

A hedgehog is a rather unusual choice. It should also be understood that as a pet, one doesn’t get an ordinary hedgehog, but an African white-bellied hedgehog.

Hedgehogs need time to get used to their owners. At first, the animal can curl up in a ball. These are fairly intelligent animals. They remember their nickname and can even show the owner what they want by their movements. Contrary to cartoon stereotypes, hedgehogs don’t eat apples or drink milk. They are carnivores and need protein food. Hedgehogs eat mostly crickets, worms, and maggots.

4. Puma

A puma is a more exotic option for the most adventurous. Taming a feral cat is difficult, but possible. And there are a number of living examples of people sharing an apartment with a dangerous predator. For successful domestication, you’ll need plenty of space and daily portions of fresh meat.

5. Wombat

The wombat is a large and cute animal native to Australia. The wombat can reach a length of 120 cm and weigh 36 kg, and sometimes even more. These animals are quite malleable and affectionate in character. They love to fall asleep in a human embrace. In food, wombats are also unpretentious. Being vegetarians, they eat only grass, berries and roots. They are natural diggers and can create a whole network of underground tunnels. This must be taken into account if you intend to get a wombat.

6. Ferret

Despite their cute and harmless appearance, ferrets are predators. At home, they eat raw meat from chicken, rabbit, turkey and small rodents. Fried meat, bread and cereals are contraindicated to ferrets and can even lead to their death.

7. Chinchilla

Chinchillas live in the wild in rather harsh conditions, so they are unpretentious at home and feel comfortable even at very low temperatures. They are herbivores. Interestingly, they do not bathe in water. To care for the animals, you should buy a special sand. Also, periodically comb out their fur.
