Should there be a limit on who can wear a bathing suit? Most would say “Absolutely not!”—except my daughter-in-law, Janice, who thinks otherwise. After a refreshing trip to Miami Beach with my husband, Donald, I felt rejuvenated and loved. One day, I wore a black bikini, and Donald couldn’t stop complimenting me.
One little girl even captured our sweet moment in a photo, which I later shared on Facebook. But then came Janice’s hurtful comment: “Really? How can you even think of showing your WRINKLED body in a bathing suit?!
You look HORRIBLE!” I was devastated. Instead of letting it go, I came up with a plan. I suggested inviting everyone over for a family barbecue. When Janice finally arrived, I took the opportunity to share the photo and express how it symbolized the love that grows with age. I also revealed her cruel comment for everyone to hear, emphasizing the importance of kindness and that we all grow older.
Janice later apologized, acknowledging her mistake. Dealing with ageism within the family can be difficult, but wrinkles and gray hair are hallmarks of a life well lived. What do you think?
