A greyhound named Vera, who was abandoned by her former owner, demonstrated the incredible efforts that a mother dog will make for her puppies.
This brave and determined dog walked two miles on a broken leg to save her puppies.
The emaciated greyhound was found in a market in southern Spain.
Vera’s front leg was broken, every step became painful. Fortunately, a woman named Lianna Powell saw Vera and took her to the vet.
Veterinarian Ellen Sobery immediately noticed that Vera was producing milk. This suggests that she gave birth in the near future.
After putting a cast on Vera’s broken leg, Ellen decided to see if Vera would lead her to the puppies. She put Vera on a leash and took her outside.
As soon as they left, Vera walked resolutely. Ellen and Lianna followed her.
“If there were puppies, they were slowly dying of hunger. We’ll need the help of a greyhound. But we weren’t sure if she would believe us enough to get us there.”
She limped on a broken leg for almost two miles, leading the women through alleys, main roads. Finally she came to an abandoned house.
A broken-down car was parked next to the house. And when the women came to the car, they found 10 puppies there. The kids were happily napping in the backseat.
“She led us to them, it was amazing. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Ellen told the Daily Mail. “This dog didn’t know us. We met her just an hour ago. So it was really amazing how she decided to trust us and show us where her puppies are. “
