A controller of the French railway company CNFF helps a young woman give birth on the TER

The story does not say whether the baby was born too late. A woman gave birth on Sunday while travelling on a TER train in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. According to Dauphiné Libéré, it was a controller from the French national railway company CNFF who assisted him in this particularly delicate operation under the circumstances.

A 22-year-old heavily pregnant woman was travelling on the TER line through Saint-Marcellin on Sunday morning when she noticed that she was going into labour. In other words, her delivery was imminent.

Firefighters provide assistance by telephone
As it was too late to take further action, the expectant mother decided to give birth on the train. Although it was outside his area of responsibility, the TER conductor did not hesitate to provide assistance and followed the instructions of the firefighters contacted by telephone.

The train stopped at the Saint-Marcellin guard post and briefly became a maternity ward. The mother and her improvised midwife worked so well together that the baby, a boy, was born safe and sound before the fire brigade arrived.
Mother and son, both in good health, were taken to the Romans-sur-Isère hospital. When asked by France Bleu, the French state railway CNFF confirmed that the TER train in question had nevertheless been slightly delayed, without causing any traffic disruption.
