A female wolf came and asked for food, and the forester took pity on her: two months later, three wolves came to the village.

One winter evening, the forester Stepan heard a noise under the fence and, stepping up to the threshold of the hut, saw an exhausted wolf. He thought about it for a moment, but then brought him frozen meat, because the forest was unusually empty in winter and it became very difficult for the animals to feed. The animal’s behavior immediately seemed unusual to the forester. Predators live on their territory, hunt there and rarely approach people unless they are very hungry.

The wolf came to feed more and more often, and the villagers even began to curse the forester – no one wanted to see a forest animal in the village. But Stepan paid no attention to this and continued to feed the animals. He realized that when the wolf was hungry in winter, it became more dangerous for the village. After a while, the wolf’s visits stopped. Everyone was happy, except Stepan – he had already got used to the guest and was even a little bored.

Only two months later, the forester heard a familiar roar outside the window. The man rushed into the yard and suddenly saw that the female wolf had brought two younger members of the pack with her. The animals looked at Stepan in silence.

Suddenly the forester realized that the female wolf had probably fed the young cubs with the meat he had given her all winter. And now the whole pack had moved to a new place, and the wolf had come to say goodbye. Stepan was right: since then, no wolf has been seen in the region.
