A bizarre incident occurred on a bus. The bus was full, it was an ordinary day, and the driver was driving quietly. One of the passengers noticed something strange on the driver’s coat; upon closer inspection, he discovered several insects crawling over the driver’s neck and ears. The man was amazed beyond imagination to find there were hundreds. He began recording the entire event and subsequently posted the footage on Facebook. Primo Onipa, the passenger who recorded the incident, said in a Facebook post that the insects were lice and that he wanted to humiliate the bus driver because he was so upset and disgusted by what had happened. According to Primo, the driver smelled terrible and appeared not to have bathed or changed his clothes in over a year.
In fact, the unfortunate driver appears in the photos to have become accustomed to these little parasites and they no longer seem to bother him. After seeing the video on Facebook, internet users expressed their anger quite clearly, saying that a man with lice shouldn’t be in charge of a bus carrying many passengers. Lice are tiny insects that live on the scalp and feed on blood. When they feed, they inject saliva into the skin, causing itching. The louse is the size of a sesame seed and is gray/brown in color.
Due to optimal temperature conditions, the female releases a chemical that ensures the eggs attach to the hair; the eggs are attached 3–4 millimeters from the base of the hair. This usually occurs behind the ears and in the occipital area of the neck; initially, during the initial phase of the disease, itching may not be present. The chance of superinfection increases if the wounds are scratched.
Because they are small and fast-moving, lice are difficult to detect. Eventually, however, they can be “caught” by covering the infected area with adhesive tape. Lice are among the worst parasites for humans, negatively impacting self-esteem and self-image. According to experts, lice are not a sign of poverty or poor hygiene. Lice can live on even the cleanest people. The main problem is that they can transmit various diseases and are passed from person to person.
