A man who can’t hear rescued a deaf puppy and taught him sign language

At only six weeks old, the life of a young dog named Emerson was already hard. He was rescued from an orphanage in Florida, from where he was transferred to Maine.

The puppy suffered an infection known as canine parvovirus, which can be life-threatening for dogs if left untreated. Fortunately, Emerson survived. But that was just the beginning of his journey.

“We aren’t sure if Emerson was born deaf and visually impaired or if it was a result of the seizures but what we do know is that neither one of those bother him one bit.” The shelter said in one of their Facebook posts.

Nick read a post on social media about a 12-week-old puppy. It said that baby Emmerson was born deaf and also visually impaired and no one wanted to take the dog for themselves.

«He is still an amazing little puppy…All he wants in this world is to be someone’s friend,» the post noted.

After reading the post about the puppy, Nick decided to take it for himself. Emmerson immediately approached the man at the sight of him.

Although they cannot communicate by sound, Nick and the puppy already get along well. The man is teaching the dog sign language. The puppy already understands some hand movements. For example, the commands to sit and lie down.

“The bond that we have is awesome,” Nick admitted.  “We understand each other very well. I’d like to think it was meant to be. He’s special.
