Well, mothers sometimes leave offspring. And the baby chimpanzee Jibril has the misfortune to be left alone a few hours after birth. But what is even more important for a child than the mother’s love?
The chimpanzee’s mother, Kyla, had no maternal instincts. She abandoned Jibril at the zoo in Malaga, Spain. Instead, he found solace in a toy monkey that zookeepers made for him.
The caretakers hoped to find a foster mother who could raise Jibril. For a while they had to replace the baby with his parents.
The baby chimpanzee liked to stay close to his stuffed monkey. It could remind him of his mother and make him feel that his mother stayed with him.
Finally, Jibril was delivered to his new mother Eva with the help of BIOPARC Valencia.
Eva, although she had never had any experience of motherhood, still wanted to protect Jibril and take care of him. They had an instant connection with each other from the first meeting.
