There are stories you can’t read without tears… This story has touched the whole world. Police have announced that a woman has died in a head-on collision on an American highway, just moments after updating her status and posting selfies on Facebook.
Courtney Sanford, 32, posted the following on her Facebook page at 8:33am on Thursday morning: “The happy song makes me so HAPPY.” Police were alerted to an accident at 8:34am. According to officers, Ms. Sanford was driving alone when her car crossed the median, collided with a recycling truck and burst into flames.
She was traveling to work on Interstate 85 in North Carolina and police say there is no evidence that speed, drug or alcohol consumption played a role in the accident. The Facebook post only became public knowledge last weekend, when acquaintances of Ms. Sanford reported to police that several of her online posts were made around the same time as the accident itself.
According to Lt. Chris Weisner, High Point police spokesman, the accident was a true public warning “of what happens when you text while driving,” television station WGHP reported. Lt. Weisner explained that Ms. Sanford had been taking selfies on the highway, according to her social media accounts, in addition to the post she sent shortly before the collision.
