When you think of a pet, you often imagine a dog – a devoted animal that always seeks attention. But one pet owner’s story shows that even a cat can disrupt sleep in unexpected ways.
Suzy Allan lived with her cat, Ginger, for 16 years. They developed a very special bond. “He loves attention and spends all day with me when I work from home,” she tells The Dodo. “He loves to be cuddled anytime, day or night.”
At night, Ginger sleeps on Suzy’s bed and demands cuddles by nudging her hand—but Suzy wasn’t aware of how often he did this.
Confused by her persistent tiredness, Suzy decides to set up a night-vision camera to find out what was happening. What she discovered surprised her.
“I wanted to know how often this happened each night and was amazed to see that it’s been going on for so long,” Suzy said. “It was fascinating to watch him meow and insist on being cuddled.”
Every night, Ginger nuzzles her hand until Suzy takes him in her arms. Then he falls asleep, wakes up after a few hours, goes about his nightly activities, and starts the cycle again.
Suzy shared an entertaining video of her cat on TikTok, which quickly went viral. Many people gave her tips on how to deal with her nocturnal cat, such as locking it in a room – but Ginger is smart enough to open doors.
Nevertheless, Suzy doesn’t complain about being woken up by her clingy cat. On the contrary, she’s happy to have it by her side for warmth.
“I love this little ginger cat and I’m glad he wants to snuggle up to me,” she said. “I might even sleep better with these cat cuddles.”
For her, life is simply better with a cuddly cat – and she can’t get enough of its loving company.
