Dane’s body was found at approximately 11:13 a.m. by volunteer diver Juan Heredia of the Angels Recovery Dive Team, led by a local river expert. Sheriff’s office divers had previously searched this area.
“Our thoughts are with the family, who are dealing with unbearable pain,” said Sheriff Adam Shanks. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy during this deeply difficult time, we ask the public and the media to allow them the space and time to grieve,” the statement continued.
Within 24 hours of the missing person’s report, authorities, volunteers, and multiple search and rescue teams searched an area of 382 acres and 283 miles. Tracking dogs, drones, divers, and boats were also used in the search.
Dane Paulsen was last seen alive at approximately 4:25 p.m. local time on March 1 in the yard of the family’s home north of Siletz, Oregon.
Around the time of his disappearance, a car driven by an adult male was spotted near the home. However, after authorities located the driver, they declared him not a “person of interest.”
The Sheriff’s Office also stated that Dane’s case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, but updates would be provided via social media and FlashAlert.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Dane Paulsen.
