For 9-year-old Brianna Bond, life took a different turn. At that tender age, the California native weighed 200 pounds. Today, at 13, Brianna is almost unrecognizable after a strict diet. Brianna was one of thousands of American girls struggling with obesity and facing the prospect of serious health problems later in life.
But she managed to turn things around after being bullied at school for her above-average weight. Her parents were the driving force behind her weight loss program, ensuring their daughter followed a regimen that included walking four miles a day.
Their motivation came when they saw their once-cheerful daughter withdraw as her weight began to interfere with her daily life. Not being able to participate in physical activities like her peers was just one reason Brianna felt isolated from her classmates.
The family decided to cut out their favorite treats and incorporate exercise into their daily routine. “I was with her every step of the way,” Brianna’s mother says. This change has made a huge difference in Brianna’s life. She is now an active member of her school’s swim team and is making incredible progress. Looking at Brianna today, it’s hard to believe she was once an overweight child.
