The giant turtle could barely move due to leg problems until the group provided it with its own wheelchair.
George is a charming 11-year-old turtle who was saved by a kind man Jaime. But George was born with a condition called metabolic bone disease, which caused his hind legs to be underdeveloped.
This disease often occurs in captive reptiles due to an imbalance of calcium and phosphorus in their diet. George could barely move his 70-pound body.
“He uses his front legs to move slowly,” Jaime told Walkin’Pets. “The older he got, the harder it became for him. He currently weighs almost 70 pounds, but can grow up to 200 pounds. ”
Turtles can live up to 100 years.And it seemed that George would be completely motionless for the rest of his life. Fortunately, they found a solution.
Walking ‘Pets is a group supporting aging animals and animals with disabilities.
So when Jaime saw that Walking ‘Pets once helped a wounded turtle named Scott Reeves get a wheelchair, she decided that they could help the little one too.
Soon George had his own wheelchair, made of a scooter and a seat belt wrapped around his body. Special care was taken to ensure that the wheelchair was comfortable around the turtle’s body.
