Turtles can live up to a hundred years or more.
The Almeida family from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, had a pet turtle named Manuela. But in 1982 Manuela disappeared. The family was devastated.
They assumed that Manuela slipped into the woods when the builders left the door open.
When Lionel Almeida died in January 2013, his children went up to the second floor to clean the storage room that their father used.
Leandro found a box with an old record player. He wanted to throw it away. But his neighbor suddenly asked him if he was also going to throw away the turtle that came out of the box.
Leandro was looking at the lost turtle Manuela, alive after thirty long years!

Manuela was with them again. The family missed the turtle very much and lost all hope of finding the animal.
They admitted that it never occurred to them to look for a turtle in the pantry on the second floor.
«We are all happy for Manuela’s return. But no one can understand how she managed to live there for 30 years, it’s just amazing.»
