Matt and Dyana have known each other since childhood, and their bond has only grown stronger over time. After their marriage, they welcomed a wonderful daughter, Luella, into their family.
Recently, Dyana shared a touching photo of herself lounging next to Luella on Facebook, taken by Matt. The story she included with the photo moved me deeply, and I hope it resonates with you as much as it did with me.
The moment we found out about this was when our daughter, Luella, was crying incessantly due to teething. To calm her, I sat next to her, and soon we both fell asleep.
When I woke up, Matt was home. He looked worried, his eyes filled with tears. Although I was initially concerned, he quickly reassured me that everything was fine and admitted that he had just been overcome with emotion.
In that moment, seeing me with our daughter, he realized how much he loved us. This brought up a story our pastor had once told us.
Some Sundays, we left Luella at home and went to church. After the service, we met the pastor, who told us about a powerful experience he had during a trip to an orphanage in Uganda.
As a missionary, he had visited many schools and orphanages around the world, but the one in Uganda had a unique atmosphere. As he entered a large room filled with about 100 baby cots, he was struck by the absolute silence. In a place with so many young children, he expected to hear crying, but instead, there was complete silence.
When he asked why the children weren’t making any noise, he was shocked by the answer he received. The children arrived at the orphanage crying desperately and reaching out to their parents. But after about a week, they stopped. The staff explained that the children realized no one was coming to pick them up and that the crying had stopped because they had lost all hope.
The silence was a sign of their inner grief. The children knew they had been abandoned, and the thought that they might never be chosen haunted them.
This story left a lasting impression on us. We vowed never to ignore our child’s cries, no matter how tired we were. I promised to comfort Luella, even in the middle of the night, no matter how challenging it might be.
When Matt saw me and Luella together in the crib, he understood everything without having to say a word. While I rested, he made dinner. When I woke up, he held me and whispered, “I love you more than anything in this world.” If this story touched you, please share it with your friends.
