Reports suggest that an 11-year-old girl, who was 10 when she became pregnant, is believed to be the youngest-ever mother in the UK. The birth occurred earlier this month, and both the mother and the baby are reported to be in good health, as stated by the Sun. Social services are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and engaging with her family, who were reportedly unaware of the situation.
A source told The Sun: “It has come as a big shock. She’s now being surrounded by expert help. The main thing is that she and the baby are OK.
“There are questions about why people did not know. That is very worrying.”
The previous youngest mother is said to be Tressa Middleton when she gave birth in 2006, aged 12, but she was forced to give her up after confessing the child’s dad was her brother, who raped her.
Tressa Middleton held the title of Britain’s youngest mother when she gave birth to a daughter in 2006. The record for the youngest parents goes to a father aged 13 and a mother aged 12, who had a child in 2014.
Puberty typically begins around age 11 for girls, but it can occur between ages eight and 14, with weight being a contributing factor. There is an increased risk of complications when younger children are pregnant, including premature labor, infections, and pre-eclampsia.
In 2017, there were reports of another girl in the UK giving birth at the age of 11, but no further details emerged.
Tressa, seen in a photo with her second child Arihanna, expressed her happiness after facing challenges with her first baby.
The title of the world’s youngest mother belongs to a Peruvian girl named Lina Medina, who was only five years and seven months old when she gave birth to a boy named Gerardo in May 1939. Initially thought to have a tumor, her parents discovered she was seven months pregnant when she was taken to the hospital.
