The two animals met at the Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary in South Africa and soon became the closest friends. Relying on each other, the strange couple found solace and strength. Now they are inseparable, and their inspiring story conquers the hearts of the whole world!
Life was incredibly hard for both Daisy and Mojaji. But they overcome difficulties together. Daisy, a tiny rhinoceros, was less than a day old when a rescue team found her in Kruger National Park. She was immediately taken by helicopter to the shelter, but her chances of survival were extremely small. In any case, the staff never lost hope of saving her!
“Unable to stand, she is incredibly weak and extremely vulnerable. This little calf is being fed hourly around the clock. At this stage, the team works in shifts to ensure there is always a caregiver by her side. We have an extremely long road ahead, but every rhino matters.”
Modjadji’s story is no different. The zebra foal was rescued from the South African fields during a storm, after she got separated from her family. Once she arrived at the sanctuary, her road to recovery begun. And she wasn’t alone in this. Soon as she met Daisy, it was love at first sight between the two, and that helped them overcome any obstacle.
“She has befriended little Daisy and is really offering her a lot of comfort,” the sanctuary wrote. “She is incredibly gentle with her, and the two seem to be good friends already.”
After a month together, Modjadji and Daisy are more like sisters. Wherever Daisy is, Modjadji isn’t far behind.
“They cuddle together at night, which gives Daisy comfort and security,” Bowker said. “Modjadji is a friend that can be with her 24/7, and this, in turn, helps to prevent too much human contact with Daisy.”
One day, Daisy and Modjadji will be able to run free and meet other rhinos and zebras. But, for now, all they need is each other, proving that the family you choose is the family that really matters.
