The owners thought of Luis as an ordinary dog. He was taken from the shelter as a baby. And he grew up to be very smart, kind and sociable.
One morning, his owners woke up to find him not at home. In 12 years, he had didn’t even try to run away, because he loved his caring owners very much.
They realized that the dog had escaped from the kitchen door, which had not been locked during the night. They searched for him, but searches throughout the day led nowhere.
The owners were very upset. They thought Luis was gone for good. But by late afternoon the dog showed up. He returned not as an ordinary dog, but as an acclaimed hero.
The owners learned what their pet had been doing from a note left with him. On it was written that Louis was a true hero, having saved Missy, who was stuck in the branches. And signed, Bob.
The family remembered that they had a neighbor, Farmer Bob, and Missy was his favorite dog. Louis, in some way known only to him, sensed that Missy was in trouble and he rushed to her rescue.
In the evening he returned very exhausted and slept through the night.
Later, they learned from Bob that Missy was stuck in the roots of a tree and probably would have stayed there if not for Louis. He found Missy, then ran to Bob and called him to come with him. For a while Bob didn’t understand what the dog wanted. But he had to go and so he led Bob to Missy
